Most sea life spawn during the full moon. The larger tides help distribute the hatchlings faster for less predation. The mandarinfish, however, drastically reduce their spawning activities as the full moon approaches. This is a full moon "shy" spawning where the large male has coaxed the female into a spawning leap, only to have her shy away a fraction of a second later.
