Mandarinfish Mandarinfish are one of the most colorful fish in existence. They are the shyest member of the dragonet family. They hide all day and night deep within the reef; only coming out for a brief period at dusk to spawn, usually 20 minutes before sundown to 5 minutes after. You can set your watch by them. They move in short bursts of speed and then freeze; holding in a perfect pose for just long enough to make a photographer think they can grab a frame. They seem to be able to sense when a picture is about to happen and dart off in a random direction.
