Myanmar (burma) 2004

Kaw Thoung harborfront. This small town is actually located on an island and is the entry point for all boats heading into Burmese waters from Thailand. Everyone is required to stop at the harbor, present their papers, and pick up a Burmese "guide" who will remain on the boat while it is in Burmese waters. The guide acts as a translator just in case the Burmese navy decides to pay a visit. Our guide was named Hai. He spoke English and passed his time helping us out on the divedeck.
