Riomaggiore Noon 1/4 - Welcome to the Cinque Terre, Jen's number one, "must see" location on our trip. The Cinque Terre is a group of five villages on the Italian Riviera that are isolated from modern development because of their topography. It's about 6 miles between the 1st and the 5th, but the only way to travel between them is a hiking trail, a local train that runs every hour or so, and boat service in the summer when the sea is not too rough. Because of their isolation, they have remained almost frozen in time, and the rather large number of tourists passing through doesn't seem to make a dent in their charm. The next four images were taken from almost the same vantage point in the southernmost village of Riomaggiore: the main difference being the time of day.
